Make the restaurant inspired by a Porsche. Send them a blank CAD file as your design and tell them you've taken the liberty of not putting any chairs and you'll be charging them four times as much for it.

Don’t be jealous. The primary purpose was to visit my sick mother. Not exactly the best reason to take time off.

We did take a day to have some fun, but it was mostly depressing.

Other people’s CAD files are awesome... Nothing like trying to figure out what they did or why everything is on Layer 0 instead of the correct layer. Or when you turn of AE_Walls and for some reason all your windows disappear .

What really sucks is working on other people’s CAD when they don’t bother to follow any kind of standard. We recently received files where the two different CAD jockeys didn’t bother to use the same layer structure. One guy had a layer for overhead utilities. The other guy named his layer “POWER”!

UGH.

Worst thigs about solidworks is order of operations— if someone didn’t build the file right, you change one small thing and the model breaks, since everything you have in the file is referenced.

I think it was a Ford F-250, or at least parts of it were. Tail lights aren’t right though.

I haven’t had the joy of dealing with that. Our big issue is people who make a duplicate copy of the model space for each layout. They don’t understand that the changes they make in their duplicate model space don’t propagate to the other files. Then they wonder why we get upset with them when we merge the files and the elements in the model space don’t align properly. Grrrrr.

Did you design the building next to it? Does it being to the same people? Have it’s owner’s every done anything for you? Take a page from the mechanics playbook and don’t worry about it, if it causes problems later they can pay you to fix it!

I think the building next door is like 100 years old and not owned by the same people. If construction of this building causes damage to that building, the owner of the new building is responsible.

i went to shut off layers of an XREF and for some reason there are only like 5 layers in the drop down bar, but there are like 100 layers in the drawing that dont show on the list.

Ah, got it. I was honestly hoping for some kind of trippy, crazy restaurant plan that made absolutely no sense — and upon seeing it for the first time you just though “Eh, fuck it” and kept going with said nonsense.

Frig I’ve seen that issue before, its like your stuck in just one x-ref. I usually have to open the whole layers window to get out of that.

I’ve been in a similar situation before

Except it was coded in a different language.

I was working on a Flash project for Lincoln’s Sync about 6 years ago. The project had originally been sent to Venezuela for (excessively cheap) development which failed so I had to take over. 90% of the Flash micro-site was developed in Spanish. That HS spanish came in handy that day. Definitely was my first time working with ActionScript 2 en Espanol.

God help anyone who opened that file up in the future because when I was done it was half english and half spanish.

yea, except the price said something more like ebony wood not balsa wood. maybe they could have gone with balsa and most charged a million for grilled chicken (it was valentines day so whatever)

fun fact: ebony wood is so dense it will not float in water
